Today I received a beautiful reminder of why I do what I do. In December, you may recall, I did a beauty shoot with one of the make-up artists that I have a working relationship with. She commented that she was awkward in front of the camera but I say everything but awkwardness. When she saw her photos, she couldn’t believe that was her face that she was looking at in the photos. I am glad she was able to see her beauty as I saw it. Today I found this message posted on my Facebook page from Ericka and I was brought to tears. It was a beautiful reminder of why I fell in love with photography and it’s my reminder to never give up:
“Growing up I had a hard time accepting myself because I was a tomboy(still am), had bushy brows, dark circles(still do), some skin discoloration and was more developed than my friends. As time went by I began to accept myself with all the imperfections god gave me. I was made this way for a reason and no one is perfect. In my journey I began to feel the same again and the last thing I want is for my daughter to question the beauty she is blessed with. @terribaskin asked me to be her model for this shoot and I have never felt more empowered. She helped me feel so comfortable in my skin and for once I felt like a woman. I was no longer that little girl hiding behind my own acceptance.
