Bridal Session

The classic bridal portrait has been considered a southern tradition for many years and has slowly been replaced by couples opting to do engagement photos.  I absolutely love taking engagement photos, because it gives me a chance to work with the couple prior to their wedding day.  Brittani and Jered did an engagement session last year.  However, when Brittani and her mom asked me about doing bridal portraits, I was excited because it’s not a request that I get often.  Different brides have different reasons for wanting them or not wanting them.  For Brittani, her reason was a unique one.  A friend of their family is an artist and her mom wants to have a bridal painting of both of her daughters on the walls in her home.  Brittani was the first daughter to get married.

During her session I realized a couple of reasons that brides may want to consider having a bridal portrait done:

1- It gives the bride a chance to master her wedding day look.  Of course, the wedding is the joining of two lives, so there’s no argument there.  Brittani was working with a make-up artist that she had not worked with before so this gave her a chance to get her make-up exactly how she wanted it without the pressure of time on the wedding day.

2- It’s a relaxed environment where the bride can enjoy being a bride.  I hear so often that the wedding day goes by so fast and the couple is in the midst of receiving well wishes from their guests that before they know it, the day is over.  And while that may seem minor, some brides put so much effort into planning their day that it’s sometimes hard to see their efforts come to fruition. This is also the reason that I try and capture every detail of the wedding day.  If the couple is spending money on something for their wedding, I want to make sure that I document it for them.

3- It’s for the parents.  It’s not often that I walk into my friends’ homes and see a classic bridal portrait on the wall.  I usually see images of the couple and that’s to be expected.  Some parents’ want that memory of their beautiful daughter in addition to the photos of the husband and wife.  I make sure during the wedding day to also take portraits of the groom solo as well as the bride, which also helps capture those same memories if a bridal session doesn’t happen.

With that, here are some of my favorite images from Brittani’s Bridal Portrait Session!
