Ahhh, early mornings on the National Mall have a certain peace about them that I love. Whenever a couple suggest this location that’s my first recommendation. If you’ve never seen the sun rise over the Washington Monument, you should definitely plan to take it in at least once. You’ll be among a small group of those gathered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in the quiet before the hustle and bustle of DC traffic and wandering tourists.
Matt and Allie had a special reason for meeting me at the Lincoln Memorial for the start of their engagement session. They originally met through the office they were both working during their annual holiday party. What started as just a friendship later grew into a courtship. Matt and Allie’s first date was at The Hamilton in downtown DC and like true DC residents, they spent their first year together with partial season tickets to the Nationals games. On Father’s Day they went to a Nationals game and the tickets Matt bought for the game were the exact same tickets they sat in the previous season (insert “awwwwww!”). Following the game they went back to the Hamilton and sat in the same booth as they did on their first date. Matt being the thoughtful guy that he is had Allie’s best friend from college in on his proposal plans. Allie’s friend was visiting from out of town that particular weekend and she sent a text message to Allie saying she was lost somewhere near the mall/sculpture garden. Being the true friend that she is, Allie left The Hamilton and went to the sculpture garden fountain to look for her. When Allie walked into the sculpture garden Matt was there and asked her to marry him!!!! Both Allie’s sister and best friend were there waiting and taking photos. And to top things off, Matt made a sign that read “Marry Me” out of pennies as they had become frequent visitors of Lincoln Memorial, where the floor is made of pennies. With all of that thought and planning, of course Allie said yes!
After this thoughtful and well planned proposal, it only made sense that they tied the Lincoln Memorial into some of their engagement photos! I was also excited that we were able to catch some of the remaining Fall foliage that remained in the area!
When it comes to their wedding day, Allie said she is most looking forward to their wedding ceremony and standing in front of all of their family and friends gathered for one brief moment to profess their love for one another and after the ceremony, Allie plans to satisfy her sweet tooth with wedding cake!
Straight from the Blooper Reel: Because sessions involve real clients and their real love stories, I have now started including any bloopers that happen during the session. At Matt and Allie’s session we decided to catch an Uber from the Lincoln Memorial over to the Jefferson Memorial and as we were walking to the car the Capitol police (not so) politely told us that the Uber driver would be fined $750 for pulling into the tour bus area if we got into his car! What?!?! So our poor driver had to drive away to another area where we had to run over an catch him! LOL embarrassing but it made for an interesting Uber ride!
