As some of you may know, when I originally started this series it was supposed to be a brief 30-day thing. Later I decided, “why should I put a limit on thanking people that are impacting lives daily?”, so I decided to keep “Watermarks on My Soul” going indefinitely and recognize and introduce my friends to people that not only have had an impact on my life but are making a difference in others’ lives as well!

You can view some of the past “Watermarks on my Soul” posts here!

But, before you click the link, I want to introduce you to Al Riddick of Game Time Budgeting.

Al and I met many years ago when I lived in Columbus, OH and he lived (and still lives in the Cincinnati area). We are fellow Aggies and entrepreneurs and this guy’s business is to help people get their financial house in order!

I knew Al was a budget savvy man when he contacted me prior to proposing to his girlfriend (at the time), Lesia.  See, After living in Columbus, I moved to Indianapolis and Al figured out that if he had Lesia’s ring shipped to an out of state address he could avoid paying a sales tax and that’s exactly what he did!  Al contacted me and told me he needed my address and I gave it to him not realizing what big ticket item was coming my way.  Al panicked slightly when I missed the delivery but I went and picked up the package and had it waiting while he drove from Cincinnati to Indianapolis to pick it up! When Al arrived at my apartment, I gave him his package and I waited while he opened it to inspect it.  That’s when he showed me the ring and why he shipped it to me!

My moment of transparency: Fast forward to the years that I lived in California, I knew I was in an expensive state and I knew I wanted to live on my own in Sherman Oaks, but what I didn’t consider was how not adjusting my lifestyle with a new cost of living would impact me financially.  I ran up credit card debt and figured that it would get paid off eventually.  I mean, I made the minimal payments each month, so that was good enough, right?  Wrong!  When I started following the launch of Al’s business I knew that it made sense for me to take notes and make some changes.  Luckily, I was in a position to make those changes but it would require a shift in my thinking.  I was (and still am) in sales, and our bonuses came quarterly, so instead of buying the latest handbag or whatever shopping splurge hit me at the time, I put my bonus checks towards paying down debt.  After some time of doing this, I was able to make my final credit card payment and Al was the first person that came to mind as I walked out of the bank.  I sent him a message and told him what I did and he called me immediately to congratulate me!  He seemed happier than I was!  While I wasn’t enrolled in Al’s plan or coaching, I was motivated by what I see and would recommend him to anyone looking for guidance!!!
