This weekend was one that I’d been waiting for and while it was busy in so many ways, it was so rewarding and I am so exhausted but yet my heart is so full!  How’s that for an ambiguous build up?!?!

Here’s a recap of my weekend:

My weekend started with the first round of the Refresh Retreat started by my photographer friends and I.  We came together and decided to live out the ‘Community Over Competition” mantra.  We understand and realize that “her success is not my failure” and that we can grow faster in our respective businesses than we can alone.

If you don’t know them already, please meet: Rhea Whitney, Iris Mannings, and Natarsha Wright.

Together, we worked on many aspects of our businesses, shared ideas, products, pricing, and providing feedback all while encouraging one another in our journeys.  I am excited about what the future holds for each of us and I know that our faith and fortitude will allow us to make great strides in an otherwise competitive industry.  We discussed our next retreat and based on some of the other photographers in the industry that we know and would love to have join us, we are excited to do this again with even larger group.

The second part of my weekend involved stopping by my church to grab a few photos of the 2015 Youth Explosion with featured guest Willie Moore Jr.  This was an awesome event and really ministered to the youth in their language.  All of the performances by the youth and for the youth were so relevant and I was excited to see this even that had been in the works for a few months finally come to fruition.

The final part of my weekend involved traveling to Baltimore and participating with the African American Festival put on by Black Enterprise magazine. My company was a sponsor and we were able to educate the residents of Baltimore about Diabetes and the importance of getting education if they or someone they knew had Diabetes.  I love being able to participate in community events and talk to people that really want to understand this disease.  We handed out literature, water, water bottles and pedometers during the event.  I left with my heart so full after talking to a few of the festival attendees and other vendors and I know that part of my service to honor God is to be a listening ear to someone that needs it.  Saturday’s festival activities in our booth included healthy food demonstration from Celebrity Chef and past winner of Cake Boss- Dana Herbert. Here is an iphone photo of me working our booth on Sunday.
