This post is designed to answer some of the most commonly asked questions regarding a maternity session:

1) When should I schedule my session?
Each mother’s pregnancy is different, but usually maternity sessions are booked between 32-36 weeks.

2) How do I prepare for the session?
Minimal preparation is needed for this session, but the following tips may help you feel comfortable and ready:

•The day of the shoot, don’t wear tight clothing, bras or other constricting bands; this will prevent marks on your skin.
•Steer clear of salt the day before and day of your shoot to prevent bloating. Drink plenty of water and get a good night’s rest before your shoot.
•Have nails manicured (I tend to take close shots of the hands).  Also, make sure any family members who will be participating also have clean nails.
3) Do I have to get undressed?
No, this is  your session.  Please feel free to dress or undress to your comfort level. I always start with clothed shots and follow the client’s lead. It is up to you how artistic you’d like to get. All shots taken are done tastefully and will not be shared without your consent. Also, my wraps that expose the belly usually suffice for most moms-to-be.
4) But what about my stretch marks or tattoos?
I use Photoshop to clean up the tummy or other areas of the body that you may not want in the photos.  All of the photos you receive will be edited. So please don’t worry!
5) May I include my partner and/or other children?
Of course! Maternity sessions are a family affair, so please bring immediate family members to the session so that they can help welcome the newest addition during the photo session.
6) Should I bring anything (i.e. props)?
Sure!  Feel free to bring things that you would like included in the session.  Most families typically bring teddy bears, clothing for baby and the ultrasound.
