The fight for women’s rights dates back to the 1800s and while there has been much progress made, things still aren’t perfect. On March 3, 1913 the young women of Delta Sigma Theta sorority participated in their first act as an organization- The Women’s Suffrage March. This year, the women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. celebrate 100 years of existence. In an effort to honor the founders, the ladies participated in an re-enactment of the Women’s Suffrage March. On Sunday, March 3, 2013 thousands of Delta’s and other organization’s met at the Capital building in Washington, D.C. to observe the fight that took place 100 years ago. All of the participants marched from the Capital down Pennsylvania Ave. past the White House to the National Monument. While the tone of this march and celebration was joyous, the reflection of tougher days lingered on the minds of participants. Below are a few photos from this day:
