As I read her email of their love story- how they met and how he proposed- Lisa included the details of Kobi’s involvement.  Kobi is Lisa and Dereck’s Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy and was an integral part of this proposal!

Dereck and Lisa met met during her freshmen year at ODU and his sophomore year at NSU.  The couple was introduced to each other by Lisa’s friend Christina and his Omega Psi Phi fraternity brother Alex, who were also dating at the time. Dereck came to ODU to pick Alex up from the girls’ dorm and that’s when their eyes locked onto one another for the first time. What started off as friendship between Lisa and Dereck later grew into a budding relationship.

Dereck proposed after coming in from running one morning in early August. He placed a name tag on Kobi that said “Will You Marry Me?” and slipped it on her collar before Lisa could notice. Once she finally noticed her new name tag, Dereck was on one knee ready to propose as Kobi sat on Lisa’s lap licking her face, as if she knew what was going on.
